About me
Hi, I'm Sumit. I did my PhD in chemistry and I've always liked explaining things almost as much as I like doing the research itself — which is really why I started tutoring: I kept finding myself explaining chemistry to friends' kids, and enjoying it more than I expected to.
I tutor GCSE and A-Level chemistry, as well as the Scottish curriculum — National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher — whichever exam board you're on.
My approach
Chemistry has a reputation for being one of those subjects where things either click or they really don't — and usually it's not because someone "isn't a science person." It's that a couple of key ideas got missed early on, and everything after that felt harder than it should. That's normally the first thing I try to sort out.
Lessons are online, over video call, using a shared whiteboard so we can actually draw things out together — mechanisms, graphs, structures — rather than just talking at a screen. Works better than you'd think.
Free resources, while you're here
If you want to get a feel for how I explain things before booking anything, take a look at my Chemistry Video Library — animated explainers I've built myself, covering the full GCSE/National 5 and A-level/Advanced Higher syllabus, completely free to use. There's also a growing Past Paper Revision section organized by exam board.
